The Cathedral School achieved one victory, two runners-up and three thirds at the Chelmsford District Schools Athletics Championships at Melbourne Sports Stadium. Jenny Page jumped 1.18m to claim the girls’ high jump title during Monday’s field event competitions. In Friday’s running races Year 5’s Abigail Hackett took second in the girls’ 600m race while Matthew Greenland managed third place in the boys’ event. In the sprints there were third places for Annie Russell in Year 3, Sophie Cown in Year 4 and a runners-up spot for Sandi Mhangami in Year 5, who earlier in the week had managed fourth place in the girls’ long jump. All the team received certificates, but special mention should go to Naomi Hunt who came into the team at the last minute because of injuries and did herself proud in both the sprint and the relay events.
