Third place in Kwick Cricket contest

The Cathedral School entered a cricket team into the District tournament at Great Waltham for the first time on Wednesday and came away with third place.

The team began with a 26-run victory over Great Waltham before losing to group winners Moulsham A by 66 runs. A win was needed from their last group game to qualify for the final phase and they managed to defeat Barnes Farm by 37 runs.

Despite a heavy defeat to eventual champions Perryfields, the team bounced back to defeat Purleigh by 36 runs and guarantee third spot. The squad was made up of Adam, Dylan, Nana, Alex M, Alex S, Oliver, William R, James and Harrison.

“I think third was a fair result because Perryfields and Moulsham A were really good,” said Alex S. “Alex M took a fantastic catch in our first game and that inspired all of us to catch really well.”

Rapid Fire Eight claim fourth-place finish

The Cathedral took our first-ever team to the eight-a-side Rapid Fire Cricket tournament at Chelmer Park on Monday.

The team began with a narrow two-run win over Perryfields A before a three-run defeat to eventual winner Moulsham A. In our final group match, we defeated Purleigh by 14 runs to qualify for the play-offs. A brilliant catch in our first match against Barnes Farm meant we lost by 11 runs, while four dropped catches by our fielders were the different in an 18-run defeat by Perryfields A.

The team consisted of Adam (captain) Haadi, Morgan, Bertie, Oscar, Joseph, Emily-Jane and Rosie.
